The Alhambra
The Alhambra is by far the biggest attraction for visitors to the city of Granada, in the south of Spain. It is a palace – or, more accurately, a collection of palaces – built during the period of the Moorish kingdom of Al-Andalus, and added to by subsequent cultures. Construction started in the 9th century, and today the vast Alhambra complex is remarkably well-preserved.
The monument sits high on a hill overlooking the city, so in addition to the beautiful architecture, it offers visitors some of the best views of Granada. The complex includes the palaces and other buildings such as watch towers, baths and more, as well as the palace of Generalife, which boasts a spectacular garden.
Skip the line tickets
Given the enormous popularity of this attraction, it’s definitely worth buying a skip the line ticket if you plan to visit the Alhambra. Tickets can be bought online or on the phone in advance, although they sell out very quickly and it’s best to buy them two or three months before your planned visit. Waiting until the day means you risk disappointment, as well as extremely long queues. You may be waiting up to two hours without an Alhambra skip the line ticket!
