Skip the Line Tickets Schloss Schönbrunn

An afternoon with Europe’s Royalty

Founded in the 16th Century as a simple hunting lodge on the outskirts of Vienna, Schonbrunn has since evolved into a sprawling baroque palace. Following its partial destruction during the Turkish Siege of Vienna, the palace was lavishly rebuilt and redecorated. With 1441 rooms reflecting in great part the influence of its most famous resident, Empress Maria Theresa, it also features beautiful gardens and grounds designed and sculpted in the French style. Throughout its history the palace has played host to several important guests. Whilst it was an official residence of the Habsburgs, figures such as Mozart and the infamous Empress Elisabeth (“Sissi”) feature prominently in its stories.

After Austria became a republic in the early 20th century, Schonbrunn became a museum. Even so, it continued to play an important role in world history, providing offices for the British delegation following WWII and hosting the meeting between US President J.F. Kennedy and Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev. As a UNESCO world heritage site, Schonbrunn now receives around 8 million visitors a year
